The dental team at our Halifax office offers dental sedation to make patients more comfortable during long procedures and to calm anxious patients.
What is Dental Sedation?
Dental sedation refers to a variety of techniques that can be used to relax patients who experience feelings of fear and anxiety during dental procedures. At Atlantic Dental Centre, we offer an oral sedation option. Our dentists can help determine if dental sedation is right for you.
At Atlantic Dental Centre, we do everything we can to help patients feel relaxed and comfortable during their dental appointments. In addition to offering a sedation option, we will work at your pace, answer any questions you have, and take breaks whenever you need them.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide is inhaled via the nose and mouth. Patients remain calm while still awake and are able to communicate as a result of the medication. Its primary goals are to reduce anxiety, raise the pain threshold, reduce the gag reflex, and make time feel it's passing faster.
Oral Sedation in Halifax
Oral sedatives are liquid or pills that are taken orally and prescribed by your dentist. Typically, the initial dose is taken an hour before your dental appointment.
Depending on your treatment, it may also include a dose on the night prior to your procedure to prevent anxiety-related insomnia.
The sedation medication will allow you to remain awake and responsive during your treatment, but you won't feel any pain.
